Church N' Jeans - Global Youth Day 2014

.
On Sabbath, March 15, 2014, twenty young people of the Ft. Lauderdale Seventh-day Adventist Church, who were dressed in jeans an t-shirts, decided to leave the comfort of their pews and engage in a day of active service. And so, they distributed 170 care packages to homeless people at Strannahan Park in the City of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. In fact, this initiative was done in concert with 8 million Adventist youth worldwide, who provided a similar service to their respective communities.

The much needed care packages which were preassembled at the church, contained the following items:  bottled water, tooth paste, tooth brush, shampoo, washcloth, wipes, and snacks.  The youth interacted and prayed with each recipient in small groups.

“It was a meaningful project. The homeless people were so appreciative,” said Nurse Pauline Douglas, Children Ministries Director, Ft. Lauderdale Seventh-day Adventist Church.   She added, “We plan to do follow up projects.”

Bro. Garfield Lashington, AY Leader and Nurse Pauline Douglas coordinated the program, which was under the umbrella of Integrated Youth Ministries. It should be noted that 16 members of the church accompanied the young people and provided a helping hand.

Dr. Jeffrey Thompson and the members of the Ft. Lauderdale Seventh-day Adventist Church would like to commend our youth for an awesome job!
